Waiters in French cafes used a "Bistro Bowl Monnaie," to show customers what they needed to pay, instead of a bill. The waiter would place it on the table, and the customer would simply put the amount in the bowl. These bowls are from the first half of the 20th century and were made with many different amounts. Today, they are a collectible item. They can be used as a "very French" saucer, wine coaster, for snacks, or decoration.
